Create Diagonal Stripe Pattern problem

Following online tutorial on youtube:

New file, 40 X 40 pxs.

Following this I create a diagonal stripe to be replicated as a pattern resulting in this:

Duplicate

Filter

Offset

Horizontal 20 pxs

Vertical 20 pxs

OK

I get THIS!:

WHY?

Does the Layer extend off canvas? (If you are not sure can you provide the file for testing?) 

Did you apply the Filter as a Smart Filter?

It's VERY possible my layer extended off the canvas.

I'm always ambivalent about the starting dimensions & modes.

As far as the filter being Smart i can't recall but i would have been following the Youtube tutorial.

So have you already resolved the issue? 

If the Layer extended off canvas this can affect the Offset-result.
