Creating Image Size / Resolution Action without changing anything...

Sometimes you want to create an action sequence that uses the same image size/proportions as the current image you are using. I've been doing this for a number of years, but recently I tried to do this again and PSCC ignores what I just did including editing an action by clicking on it which brings up the Image Size window and editing it again. The action is ignored and keeps the original. For instance. I'm creating a document I'm going to use for printing two images side by side. So I create an action sequence with new document and adding the images to this document. I created a 300 resolution one and it works fine. Now I want to create a duplicate action sequence with the same actions, but changing just the resolution to just change it from 300 to 400. The images are originally 400 so I'm not downsizing the quality just the document first before adding the images to it. So I double clicked on my duplicate action under Image Size and changing the resolution. On screen I retype the same information even if it's the same and usually it saves the action information, but now I see it remains the same or if I try to make a new action with the same resolution and image size it doesn't create one. I know it may sound like "why would you want to do than anyways?", but I've been doing this in order to make sure the resolution or image sizes stay the same as a double checking method. It's always worked in Photoshop and now it seems unless you actually make a change to the image size or resolution of the image it won't apply. Does this make sense?

So because of this I will have to find an alternative to my work flow and do some pre-sizing elsewhere or double checking things myself. It's just kind of annoying. When you input an action even if it's the same as the current document size it should still add the information to the action sequence whether there is a change or not.

You  wrote   Image Size / Resolution.

The then you write  300 resolution and later  300 to 400 are tan image were originally 400 your not downsizing. And image size step not changing.

When you use Photoshop Image Size in Photoshop you can change the image size  two ways controlled by the Resample option. When you check Resample you change the image size by interpolating the images Pixels pixels.  You create an entirely new image with a different number of pixels.  When to do not check resample the images size in change by changing the size the image pixels are printed.  Not a sin Pixel is changed,  added or removed.

It sounds like you changing the image print size by changing DPI resolution Pixels are not being change just the Print DPI resolution setting is changed.

To change the action you need to edit the action and re-record the image size step.  The by done by highlighting the image size step and using the Action Palette fly-out menu item Record Again.  The must be an open document so image size is available to be recorded.  Alternately you cab double click one the image size step to re-record the step.

Here I new open documen opent and an action that set a document do resolution to 300DPI.  I double clicked the image size step. The image side dialog opens with the recorded 300dpi setting.  I chaned the 300 to 400 and click OK in the dialof.  You can see the action step that was setting 300dpi is non setting 400dpi.

Yeah trust me I know about resampling and all the jive. I've done this for over 15 years now. I just noticed something particularly different. I used to be able to change a resolution 300-400 or size in inches or simply retyping the same exact information. The actions would update even if I changed nothing, but retyped it. I'm actually changing something in this particular case and it's not updating. It's making me need to make a new addition to the sequence. Sure I can do that and delete the former entry, but it didn't do this before. I'm particular taking about adjusting an action sequence and retyping the same thing or changing a small part of it. Even if I change the resolution from 300 to 400 by clicking on the particular action it is not saving it it is simply adjusting the current document even though it was supposedly recording. This didn't happen before when I used Photoshop CS2 and CS3 in the past. It would adjust after entering the information. I would double click on the particular action and an Image Size menu would appear and I  would adjust the information or simple retype it again. Either way I'd see the adjustment by opening the triangle next to that particular action sequence. It's kind of hard to explain this issue. I'll try and do it on other occasions and see if it continues. I've done probably hundreds of thousands of actions in my life so far so seeing this particular thing just pops out at me. There's been a change or unless it's just a fluke that is only happening at this particular time.

I have been using Phoroshop for some 20 years and know quite a bit about crafting actions.  I have not seen any big change in actions since CS 4 adjustment panel add the bad option that can break Actions, Scripts and Plug-ins that add adjustment layer.  That bug is still with us in CC 2017.

I've ran into some broken actions like the adjustment layer issue. Like I said I'm coming from CS3. I had to buy a new iMac after 10 years of relatively solid use so I'm finding little issues with CC since I started though the majority of my actions are okay. Thanks for the info. It's like I've been in a time capsule of sorts.
