Hi,

I'm stuck getting this to work... I have a triangle shape which I need to fade out exactly 50% across, so it is solid for the first half, then the second half fades out to nothing. I have my shape, apply a layer mask and use the gradient tool but it's not giving the right result. Bit of a novice but I can find my way around...

Thanks!

Try

Layer > New Shape Layer > Gradient

and set the Transparency stops accordingly.
