Crop and expand without Regenerate

When expanding the canvas Photoshop always insists on regenerating content. This is a showstopper e.g. on isolated Images, as you have to wait for the (not needed) result and disable/delete the layer after finishing. Clicking "Cancel" while regenrating cancels the whole crop&expand process.

I think it would be more userfriendly if regenerate is only used when activley asked for.

Please provide an actually meaningful description of the exact steps you take with screenshots (including all pertinent Panels) to illustrate. 

How are yo uexpanding the Canvas? Image > Canvas Size, Crop Tool? 

In the latter case: Have you checked »Content-Aware« in the Options Bar?
