Cropping/Resizing

Hi all,

 

Saying up front that this will be a dumb question...  I have Photoshop 2024.  NO idea how to use it.  Many, many years ago, when I dabbled in photography, I had an older version of PS and could use it for the very basics...  Pretty much starting over.

 

I have TONS of photos of kids/etc that Wifey wants to print, so we went out and bought a Canon Pro 200.

 

Of course, not looking for anything professional here, just decent enough to frame and mount.  Now, when I load up a photo that's God-only-knows how large, if I want to crop that to, say, 8x10 inches, how do I do it?!

 

I recently tried and what I ended up with was a blown up image of one of my kids' eyeballs.

When the Crop tool is selected, the Crop tool presets menu in the options bar includes an 8 : 10 aspect ratio option. If you choose W x H x Resolution instead, in the options bar fields you can enter 8 by 10 inches at the ppi resolution you want.

basically, you select the tool, set up the desired size in the option bar(change ratio to h x w x résolution, use 8"x10" at 200 or 300 ppi, then drag the marquee to the area you want to crop, commit.
