[CS2] Brush strokes break regardless of pen pressure

I am using a Wacom Pen & Touch small on Windows 10 and I have been using the same tablet in the same PS CS2 version for the past 5 years without this issue occuring. However, for the past week or two, my brush strokes have started to break at random without clear pattern and without me lessening the pen pressure. The result is as demonstrated in the screenshot below.

The issue does not seem to occur outside of CS2, at least not in my other drawing programs, meaning that it is probably not a defective contact within the tablet or the pen itself.

The connecting wire does not have an issue as that would very likely pose problems in other drawing programs as well.

I updated my driver around the time the issue first appeared, so I tried deinstalling the newest and installing one of the older versions again but the issue remained.

I installed the driver on my sister's laptop as well but the problem remained and it only remained in photoshop CS2 again.

Anybody here who has the same problem and got it solved somehow? I would be happy for any kind of hint...
