Question

CS5 brush suddenly goes dark and thick.

I never had this problem with CS2 and CS3. I usually lay down my construction lines using really light strokes but all of a sudden, the lines become thick and dark as if I applying the usual pressure I do for the final ink stage. Kinda makes it look like my tablet started blotting. I didn't make my stroke any harder. Is it just me? Brush preference? Tablet driver?

Specifics:

-Photoshop CS5

-Windows XP

-Wacom Bamboo Fun

Hi, I've tried all the "fixes" stated here, have the latest Wacom driver, turned double click all the way to the right, checked 3rd party software running but still have this issue.

It's really annoying and it's not happening in TV Paint so it HAS to be photoshop.

I'm running the latest Photoshop (21.1.3)

iMac late 2013 version, Mac OS 10.14.6

    3,2 GHz Intel Core i5

    24GB 1600 DDR3

    SSD drive

    NVidia GeForce GT755M 1 Gig

    Wacom Cintiq 22

Oh and it's now 2020... a decade after this thread started...

I was just thinking that. Its ridiculous that we're still having issues. Ive had to disable both finger buttons on my pen to work around it. Unreal.

FIXED (for me at least..) here's what I did:

    Uninstall current tablet driver

    restart pc

download and install the pro614-3.exe driver from the official wacom website.

I hope this works for others as well.

So it is indeed the newer driver software.. stupid.

I only tested this version, maybe one version higher also does the trick.

If anybody wants to take up the task, try around and see which versions have the issue and which ones don't.

Thank you for reporting your success. Some times, the newest driver is not the best. About a year ago, nVidia issued two video drivers, that launched two 3D, extreme-gamer modules, 3D StereoVision, and PhysX. Those conflicted badly with Adobe programs. It took a bit to track down what was happening. About the time that those two modules were identified, nVidia had released a newer series of drivers, and those modules were disabled by default, though were still available to the gamers, if they needed them.

Over the decades, Wacom has been very, very good with their drivers, but anyone can release one that is less than perfect.

Hope that your report will help others, as it does appear that there are several with similar issues.

    Good luck to all,

    You're welcome.

I really hope people with this problem find this topic. It took me a while to find it.

And as a lot of people just have basic "pen pressure not working" issue, if you try to ask a question on most boards about pen pressure, people facepalm and skip to the next topic, thinking you just forgot to turn on the pressure sensitivity. And if they indeed answer it's often "install the newest drivers" which is in this case a particular bad suggestion.

Wacom should fix this soon, as it is a really annoying problem, and as suggested above, you don't often go looking for older drivers to make it work.

This Thread starts Jun 9th 2010 and the problem is still not solved!!! I am a professional Illustrator and face this problem every working day!

@Adobe: Do something. Talk to Wacom.

Have you checked Wacom's site lately?  Maybe they have fixed it.

People report correcting brush pressure problems from time to time...  Usually they get there by fully removing their Wacom driver and installing the newest one.

I recently updated my driver for my intuos3, and since then I'm having the problem. I used the "pro616-7_int.exe" driver for Windows 7 that messed it up. So, still not fixed

Now going to try to use older drivers.

Using windows 7 64 bit, Photoshop Cs4, Wacom intuos 3 and having all sorts of problems with pressure sensitivity not working. works for a few lines then only thick lines. Downloaded latest drivers- no difference, tried using photoshop 32bit- no difference.

Solution= changed the USB input. (a friend suggested Bus conflict with mouse in rear USB).

Hope this works for everyone else having same problems.

    Cheers

Wacom has apparently got a driver bug they're actively working on this issue.  Some folks report downgrading to older Wacom drivers is the problem, and others report a complete removal of the drivers fixes the problem.  This is the first I've heard of selecting another USB port correcting it.  Interesting...  Maybe the driver installation on the new port is initializing something that's not being initialized properly in other cases.

Great news that the problem is being worked on. USB port conflict does seem to be an odd solution and may depend on individual computer builds. I'm now sticking with the port that I know works!

I have the exact same problem on my new pc with CS4

    I use:
    Windows 7 64bit,

    Intuos3, Photoshop CS4,
All  with the newest drivers and updates.

I ask the Wacom suppot about this and they suggested to erase the global wacom preferences. Didn't worked for me.

Still every 5th line painted losses pressure sensitivity.

Maybe it could be a collision issue with some Windows 7 background programs? just guessing
    Really annoying issue

I have the exact same problem, reinstalling the drivers didn't work either. I got it first on Vista and it disappeared after I installed Win 7, but now It's back again. Hella annoying.

Certainly a problem with teh tablet driver in combination with the old operating system and CS5. Other users have reported similar issues with suddenly losing pressure sensitivity. you can only try to reinstall the tablet driver, but beware: The latest Wacom 6.15 driver does seem to only make things worse, so use the same version you have now for the reinstalls.

I'll give that a try. Here's hoping it helps. Drat the fact that I'm really liking CS5 that I can't bring it to myself to go back to CS3.
