All,
Just installed CS5 Extended on my Macbook Pro (10.6.3) and getting a message whenever I start CS5 as follows:
______________________
CS5ServiceMnaager wants to use your confidential information stored in "Adobe CS Live 1.0-com.adobe.renga" in your keychain.
The authenticuty of "CS5ServiceManager" cannot be verified. Do you want to allow access to this item?

I'm coming from CS3 and have never seen this before. My choices are to always allow it, deny, or allow one time.
Sorry if a basic question. A search in the forum didn't show anything.
Jay S.
I posted a very similar question yesterday b/c my search within the forums didn't show me this information in the results. this post was extremely helpful. i deleted Adobe from my keychain, and this request has stopped popping up when i open programs within the suite.
thank you!!!

CS5 has so many Internet related callbacks to Adobe, it's kind if uncomfortable. CS Live, Help, asking for Adobe ID, etc. I wish they wouldn't do all this online stuff in their apps. It does make you wonder about Big Brother.

I'm just not sure if I'm supposed to allow this or not. It seems likes it is looking for a file of its own, which IS in the keychain. I'd just like to know why Adobe needs access to anything in my Apple OSX keychain. If I say "No" forever, what am I giving up?

Primarily it's a call for updates. I'd allow it. But that's me.

Scott,
There is plenty of software out there that does auto updating without accesing the portion of a mac where all other passwords are stored. I'm not saying there is anything sinister going on, just don't understand why CS Live needs to connect itself to the Apple OS X Keychain. Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
The CS5Servicemanager is used by CS LIve (http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/cslive/) The Keychain application is storing sign-in information when you opt to remember passwords. If you deny the Keychain access, you will get this warning everytime you launch a CS5 app. If you always allow, it sets the Keychain reference back to being verified and shouldn't show up again. I need to double check but I think there is another option (not in the alert dialog) that will make the dialog no longer appear, but makes you sign in again to use CS Live.
regards,
steve

Steve,
Thanks for the detailed reply. I went to the Keychain and saw the Adobe entry there. I understand there are benefits to CS Live, but the option to enter a CS Live password when needed should be the default, in my opinion vs. residing in Keychain by default. I don't remember anything during the install that indicated Adobe CS Live was going to take up residence in my keychain, where other passwords are stored. Just seems like an accident waiting to happen for CS Live. If there is an alternative way for me to still access CS Live (as needed) and not have it embedded in the Keychain, I'd be very interested.
Thanks again,
Jay S.

Hi Jay,
Delete that entry and the alert should go away. The keychain will only get set again if you select the 'Stay signed in' option when trying to access a service, IIRC. I think it get sets on installation when you are asked for your Adobe ID, but need to verify that behavior. And, the error you originally reported should only show up if the executable's binary gets modified (ie. update to CS5ServiceManager).

steve

Steve,
Will give it a try and report back. I remember providing my Adobe ID during installation, but again I don't remember any notification regarding installing something that would be retrieved from the keychain.
Thanks!

Steve,
Sorry.. I never got back to you but thanks as well. Deleting the key took care of the dialog box. I don't know if I'm missing something else now but I don't miss the dialog box. 🙂

Hi,
I'm glad that worked for both of you. The only thing deleting that key does is reset a 'remember password' option for CS Live services. It doesn't opt you out, or restrict access to anything.
There was an update to CS LIve in August that is triggering the message from Keychain. To check and silently fix the key would have required a more complicated update mechanism. Since the string is solely from Keychain there's no way for Adobe to modify the message or give any clearer explanation, unfortunately. We have a report logged and are considering changes in the future.
Is it better to have the Keychain message with an 'Always Allow' option to something that's opaque and unclear, or silent delete of the key, which brings back the Sign In dialog for CS services (when I've already selected 'Remember me' and expect an auto sign in)? There's more subtle workflow issues that influence this as well. I also ask this somewhat rhetorically but please provide feedback if you have a strong opinion.
regards,
steve

Steve,
Would deleting this or not allowing it in the first place some how cause Update Notification to stop on CS5? I got no notification of the updates to CS5 or Bridge. I did receive them from Lightroom. When I go to the help tab for CS5, the "Updates" selection is grayed out..

Hi Jay,
The CS5ServiceManager key deletion should have no impact on the Updater notification. Is it also inactive in Bridge or other CS5 products?
