CS6 error opening images

I recently had a new computer and this is happening to my high res images when I open in CS6 - (only to view the actual images aren't affected) can anyone tell me why or suggest a setting change? Also when trying to open up a new document whilst the pictures are like this, I only get a black screen no work area?
