** EDIT i figured it out i didn't know my foreground colour was red.....**

why does this happen??

it doesn't matter whether i picked any background colour when i made my file, it doesn't matter whether i choose "white", "black", "background colour", "transparent" or "other" or i try to change the background colour by merging layers, it just keeps turning red...

is this normal? why can't it just go blank white?

Hi Hope Mari,

Keyboard shortcuts work whether or not you know them or like them, although they can be changed in the Edit menu.

  • Fill with Foreground color: Alt+Backspace (Option+Delete on Mac)
  • Fill with Background color: Ctrl+Backspace (Cmd+Delete on Mac)
  • Reset swatches to black and white: D

If you are choosing a color and the background changes instead of the foreground, then open the Color panel and click once on the foreground icon to activate it.

Does this answer your question? If not, please clarify what you were trying to do when you pressed Ctrl+Backspace.
