Ctrl+c no longer copies Layer mask with the layer when pasting ctrl+v

Copying a masked model image into another file using the Select all (ctrl+a), Copy (ctrl+c), select layer in a different doc and Paste (ctrl+v) to paste above that layer.  This is for Senior Sports Banners that I have been doing for years. This process now only copies the active element (image or mask) in the layer instead of the entire layer. Now having to drag and drop into the layer, which takes longer and with +30 student athletes that adds up.

Recently built a new computer with clean install of everything. Don't know if there is a setting or check box I'm forgetting or this is result of an update. The Layer Mask is linked to the layer and the active tool is Rectangular Marquee (m) or Free Transform/Move Tool (v) (which previously didn't matter which).

Hi @brents16085244 it works with my setup. Your method of operation is the issue.

1. Don't use select all - that tells PS you are only selecting the pixel data on that layer. That is what it is copying.

2. Click on the layer you want to copy in the Layers panel and ctrl+c and ctrl+v in your second document to copy the layer and mask.

It seemed to fix itself after a cold boot. Yeah I was doing it without select all also and it was still doing it. So I was questioning how I was supposed to do it. I restart the program a couple of times and got it to work, but it would past with layer mask unlinked. I think some registries or caches got a little out of wack and took a cold boot to clear them.

PS has been acting screwy since the new computer. Cache issues until I moved them to the second M.2 drive (D:\), freezing while panning until I turned off the panning throw, cursers going crazy - like brush circle going away until restart. All the little fixes I've done over the years, is now gone and now I have to remember how I fixed them.

Thanks for the help.
