Question

CTRL Keyboard shortcut not working in Photoshop (macOS)

Hi there guys,

Generally don't know what has happened but some of my keys work in PS like B for brush etc, but anything with CTRL it is not working. Any ideas on what it may be? Really is a pain having to use the drop down menu just to duplicate a layer or undo something with ALT + CTRL + Z.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys and just so you are aware I am using an iMac.

Thanks in advance.

John.

Hi there Jane,

Being as I dont currently have a magic keyboard I had to do a bit of investigative work lol. I eventually sorted it, for some reason my modifier keys had modified themselves!!

Your post got me to think and sparked the intrigue so thank you for that lol.

Have a nice day!!

You're welcome, @John30202553mnw1 .

This isn't something that requires a Magic Keyboard, though. This goes way, way back in time to when Macs had a one-button mouse and could not right-click. The Control key has one purpose and that is for the equivalent of right-clicking. If you are using a Windows keyboard on a Mac, the flying Window key becomes the Command key, and Option uses the Alt key. I'm glad you have it sorted now! 😊

Hi John

On a Mac, use Command+Option+Z.

Control+Click was what we used to "right-click" with a one-button mouse. It continues to work even though one-button mouses are largely a relic of the past.
