Cursor disappears when use brush or cloenstamp things.

Issue:

Photoshop version: 24.1~24.2(In video, PS version is 24.2)
OS: Window10

Steps to reproduce:

... Painting with Brush, Healingbrush, CloneStamp, MixerBrush

Expected result: Nothing should happen, That should just see the cursor, including the brush, as it is, just like we were trying to do.
Actual result: The cursor edges of tools like brushes disappear, and you see the Windows 10 default arrow shape.

I've tried to record this bug every time, but the bug doesn't reproduce well when I start recording, and other communities like reddit have reported videos with similar behavior.

But today, while testing 24.2 (of course, there was nothing about this in the revision history, but just in case), I was recording. And I recorded a moment.

This bug is very frequent when it happens, and very infrequent when it doesn't.

In severe cases, it keeps happening every time I stroke the brush. I haven't tested this on Windows 11.

There are definitely bugs in Photoshop 24.1 and later, and for me, 24.0 was fine, but some users have reported that they had to roll back to 2022 for the bug to go away.

And it happens regardless of the image size and bit depth. And I don't use a mouse much, so I don't know, but for now I'm using a Wacom Intuos Medium Pro.

But it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Wacom. I tried installing different Wacom drivers, but the only thing that fixed the problem was rolling back the Photoshop version. I think something has been broken since 24.1, and I'm guessing it's this new brush cursor thickness customization option-beta that was added in 24.1 that is causing the problem.

This is not a catastrophic bug that will crash Photoshop or wipe out all your work.
But for retouchers like me, or artists who do a lot of drawing, it's a very annoying and inefficient bug.
I thought this would be fixed in 24.2 as a matter of course, but I'm disappointed that it isn't.
Hopefully, it will be fixed in the next version as a hotfix patch.

Possibly connected to the disappearing rulers?

Anyway, post your full Help > System Info. This will help the engineers reproducing.

Also try to check "deactivate native canvas" in preferences. This reverts to old GPU code (OpenGL instead of DirectX).

BTW threads get merged because it's much easier for everyone to have all the relevant info in one thread, instead of having to have 20 separate tabs open in the browser. It's also easier to have one single place to post solutions and/or suggestions to affected users.

I left the system information of the computer I tested now. However, this has also been reproduced on other desktops and Windows 10OS laptops, so we can be sure that this is not the only problem with this computer.

Also, I will answer in advance because I know that you will suggest some things by looking at my photoshop information.

1. RAM 80%

- Yes, I know. As mentioned above, each computer has a different setting. It had nothing to do with RAM.(70-80%)

2. Deactive Native Canvas

- I activate this as much as I can. And there are computers where it's active, and there are computers where it's not, but it happens in all of them.

3. Some computers have plug-ins, some have really photoshopped computers for font writing. Again, this is not the cause of the problem either.

4. GPUs are now 2070 super and most of them have 20xx to 30xx computers. The 40xx series experienced a bug just once. However, I haven't tested the computer with 40xx graphics card because it's not my primary Retouching purpose computer.

5. Yes, I know. I know that the studio drivers installed on this computer are not up to date. As I said, other computers have the latest drivers installed, and this computer should be as stable as possible. And the latest version of the studio driver is maintaining this driver version, which has no problem to avoid, because the GPU clock pops abnormally in some situations.

Most importantly, unlike what I answered in advance above, what is common in all computers and all situations is that it is a bug that only occurs in the versions of 24.1~24.2 (at least that's what my team and I experienced). Other threads say that some users have also experienced it on 24.0), if you use Photoshop version 2022 or earlier, you will never get this bug.

That's right, but the title of the thread that was merged now means that the cursor disappears in the presence of Mask, which is slightly different from the current problem.

This is pretty annoying. I often do micro skin correction using Dodge Burn.

But the moment the brush cursor turns into a window arrow, I have to stop my hand painting the brush every time and start painting again.

@Jqqerry Which stable version do you recommend that does not cause this bug? I'm using the 2023 version.

@Ho2859762787p0 As I wrote in the text, I have never experienced this cursor bug when using 24.0. However, each user has a different experience, so first try one of the versions you can roll back.

@CoryShubert I also found it difficult to reproduce this on purpose, but it happens quite often in real life.
And I can assure you that "at least for me and my team". This cursor bug does not occur in 24.0.
Also, there have been reports of rulers disappearing since a few days ago, and I've confirmed that as well. However, I have not found any bugs on my or my team's desktops that cause rulers to disappear or not be enabled.

Could you please take another look at the "Brush Edge Thickness, Bold" feature that was added in 24.1?

I have a feeling this might have something to do with it.

I'm going through this in all the other Photoshop versions (until 24.3) except for 24.0, which was released around October last year. It's very uncomfortable. To prevent the brush from turning into an arrow, the brush must be stopped and restarted unconditionally. Continue with the arrow while pressing..................
