I have a logo with an A in it. I cutout the logo but there is solid white in the center of the A. When I cut it out with the pen tool the cut out section goes to the new layer. I want the logo to go to the new layer with the center cut out. How do I do that?  Thank you in advance.

After you draw the main shape, make sure you have the same layer selected, but the shape not selected (no anchor marks showing). Change the pen mode to subtract front shape, then draw the center of the A.
