Cutting pieces out of an image

Hi! I have poked around but cannot figure out how to just remove the white corners on this. I just want the green part so it comes down to a point at the bottom instead of having the little bit of white.  I have tried a few different things but it always takes into account the whole picture and not just the little section I want to get rid of. Help!

I actually did try that, and then this screen pops up. I push ok but then nothing happens. Are my settings in correct to make it go away?

You seem to be selecting the Fill rather than delete. The selection should have marching ants – see screen shot.

Weird because the dancing ants are all around it. And I am pushing the delete button but the above screen pops up every time.

If you want to fill it with black, choose Black from the Fill > Content drop-down menu.
