Decontaminate Colors

Contributor ,
Sep 01, 2018 Sep 01, 2018

Decontaminate Colors is not available to me -- it is constantly greyed out.  I have tried all output choices: Selection, Layer Mask, New Layer, New Layer With Mask, New Document, New Document With Layer Mask. I have been using PS (19.1.5) for a year & this is the first time this has happened.

  • OS: Windows 10
  • I am working on a copy of my Background, not my original.
  • I experimented with different photos--same problem.
  • I have searched the forum for answers.
  • Photoshop is signed in.

Suggestions?

I have been trying to reproduce the problem this evening, but it has corrected itself, since shutting down a few hours ago.  However, your suggestion that I might have had the Index mode selected makes sense, because I did receive a warning about a mismatch, this morning, which I ignored, since there was no problem with my picture visually. Obviously, I was wrong. Thank you for helping me understand why. I will do some reading to find out why I should care about color mode, other than mismatches.
