Define pattern issues

When I go to define patterns, the preview box shows a very thin selection as a pattern instead of the proper pattern. Argh i dont even know how to explain the problem properly and it is so frustrating! Define brush is working fine. When I go to define a brush wtih the same image it looks perfect.. for some reason define pattern is not working properly. Please see screenshot

They actually fixed part of this issue, but with the transparency, I think it shows up again. To get around it, I added a brush stroke the length of the pattern, but just one digit off in color, so if you have an rgb value of 0, 0, 0, try 1, 0, 0.

I am not getting the result on Mac. After I deleted background layer could not get the rectangle path to show (but that is not important).

To define a pattern try select all or something to have to have matching ants to define pattern bounds, that might help.

A pattern has to have some texture in it. It can't be one solid color.

Yeah, in that case the Pattern could be expressed as one single pixel.

I think Photoshop sheds useless data for patterns, so if for example the pixels are identical along the x axis a column of 1px width suffices to recreate the pattern.

Not seeing the issue here on Windows with Photoshop 20.0.6, have you tried resetting PS preferences

You may want to backup your settings before hand
