Deleting .dcm files -- will it hurt my ability to use .CR2 photos?

I'm cleaning out files and can see the .dcm companions to .CR2 images in Bridge. It doesn't seem to affect my ability to view and edit the .CR2 files. Any reason I should not delete the .dcm?

Using a Mac. Bridge version 13.0.3.693.

Have you used any other camera raw software other than Adobe Camera Raw?

At this point i've deleted all the files and there seems to be no problem editing the original raw CR2 files from 2008. To answer your question, no, not to look at these files. I think the .dcms have something to do with the xmp files. No need to go any further with this. Thank you for your efforts.

Could you please provide more detail about this situation. How/why/when are the .dcm files getting generated in relation to the .cr2 files? Also, what are the sizes of each of these files compared to each other?

They are images from 2007 and 2008, and are 600-ish bytes compared to the 7-12 MB .CR2 images. I think they have something to do with the .xmp files. See attached. It doesn't seem to affect my ability to open the old .CR2 files. Message is "Photoshop no longer recognizes this type of file" when I try to open. Ps. I have been deleting the .dcm files with seemingly no detriment to the original photos.
