Out of nowhere, when I try and delete a photo: (after clicking on delete this file from disc). Dialog box: 1 of these files could not be moved to Trash….The files are not on a volume that supports Trash. Do you want to permanently remove them??
Today is the first time I got this message after using an external drive for 4 years. And even when I said I wanted to delete them permenantly, nothing happened. I tried 'deleting rejected photos' and had the same results.

Try using Windows Explorer and delete it that way.

I know I can delete using Apple Finder but that is clumsy. What happened to the way I used to do it?

Just guessing: Maybe it's a permissions issue.

That is strange. Maybe the external hard drive is going bad. What kind is it??? Please do not say Western Digital !!! Please do not say Western Digital !!!
I use a Seagate... actually have three of them! I got so pissed at my old Western Digital that I said no more buying things that become corrupted. So friendly tip.... try a Seagate!
But strange that this is happening. Have you right clicked to try to delete or dragged it directly to your trash can (then hit empty)?

Funny after all these years, I had the opposite experience. Seagate gave me problems and western digital was rock solid. I believe I only had one drive go bad and that was roughly 20 years ago.
But then again I update my drives same time as my systems over the years, so I have taken care of any issues before they would have occurred. LOL.

I also heard drive issues are more common on macs than PC's, but that is hear say.
