Dimensions not reducing when converting to a higher resolution (300dpi)

I have noticed that on recent updates, when I do an image conversion from a lower resultion (72dpi), to a higher resolution (300dpi), the image dimensions no longer reduce proportionately to accomodate the adjustment.
So even though I am increasing the DPI, the image is staying excatly the same size. Is there any way to resolve this?

It’s ppi.

You seem to have chosen Percent instead of a unit of measuremnt of length like mm.

It is acting correctly. You are not changing the pixel size of the image, only how many pixels will be used to take up each inch of paper when printed.  So with a higher ppi value - the image will print smaller but with denser pixels (i.e more in each inch)

If you actually want more pixels - then check "Resample" but be aware that those additional pixels will not add any detail - they are just interpolated from existing pixels.

Can I just ask, why did it on an older version of photoshop reduce the image size down when I converted from 72 > 300. But now the image stays exactly the same size? What has changed?

Just for clarity, by size I mean dimensions.

With resample unchecked, Photoshop always kept the same size in pixels. Changing ppi just changes a number held alongside the image which is used when calculating a physical size (i.e. inches or cm) from those pixels.

Nothing has changed between versions
