In Adobe Photoshop CS6 13.0, how can I make the whites whiter and the blacks blacker? I noticed that every document I scan to my PC has that dirty / grainy look to it. It's not caused by a dirty scanner bed but by the printer's software settings. I've had this Ricoh Aficio SP printer for years and I have yet to find the cause. I just need to make regular text documents look their best. How is this done in Adobe Photoshop CS6 13.0?
Is the scanned document an image, text or both?
For a text document, you could save as a PDF and use Acrobat to convert the scanned text to editable text as covered below:

On the question of making the whites whiter and the blacks blacker, you could try adjusting the brightness and contrast (Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast...)
