Disappearing text in CC 2017.0.1

Principiante de comunidad ,

After installing the latest update to Photoshop CC (2017.0.1), I lost the ability to edit text, without it disappearing. I have a set of copyright tags that I use for tagging images with our company name and date - this is a technique I have used since Photoshop v6 and every other version I have used since - until the update I installed about three weeks ago.

When I open any of my master tag files (which are set to a certain resolution, font size, position, and layer effect) - then try to change the date, the text completely disappears. Even if I try to drag and drop the invisible text to another image, it still doesn't appear. Unlike some of the problems others have written about, with part of the text disappearing, the entire line disappears in my case.

My work around is to change my tag file on another computer, using an older version of Photoshop (CS 3), change the date, then bring the edited tag file back to my primary computer for use. I can then drag and drop just fine, I just can't edit text without it disappearing.

Both my Photoshop licenses are on Mac platforms, I'm using CC 2017 on an iMac with OS 10.10.5. This is a tagging method I have used for 14 years, so I suspect the problem is a bug with the recent update. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

- Troy

I have experienced similar occurrences but mainly when the text size is very small on the screen. Zooming in on the text seemed to correct that problem for me. I'd be curious to hear if that is your case as well.

Brad, I am aware of the issue you raise, that is completely different - the situation you are talking about is when the screen is no longer able to render text at certain zoom levels, in that small fonts show as blocks or disappear. There is a setting in older versions of Photoshop and Illustrator preferences, but I forget what it is called - "Type Limit"? if I remember correctly? Anyway, it is a setting for you to set a minimum font size, but I don't see an option for that preference in PS CC 2017, or CS 3 (I could be wrong, it may only be in Illustrator).

This thread suggested resetting Preferences.  If that doesn't work, we'll at least be bumping your post to the top of page one.

Trevor, I tried that, and still didn't work. I restarted Photoshop after resetting preferences, I have not rebooted the computer however. I also went into the applications library to see if I could trash the preferences the old fashioned way in Mac OS, but could find the correct preferences to trash - I don't know if this is due to changes in Mac OS, or if it has something to do with Creative Cloud architecture.

The problem still exists, but thanks for the suggestions so far.

I'm having the same problem, but on a Windows machine.  It also happens if I update text while opening an older file.

Hi Joe,

Is it happening with only one file or every file and did you try changing the font?

Regards,
Sahil

Several files, but they're based on the same file. It's also not all text layers in a file. A co-worker tried the same file on her Mac and had the same issue.

She did find a workaround though: if I select the text layer, then select Color in the Character palette (but don't change the color) and hit OK, the text layer works as expected.

Are you facing this issue with all the fonts or some certain fonts?

After a rough survey of older files, looks like it's just the one font, and just in that file.

Mine has been disappearing for ages. I read somewhere that it's a problem between Indesign and El capitan. Either way it's a nuisance! The easy workaround is just to resize and go back, so for example hit command2 (zoom) and then command0 (fit page in window).

It comes back easy enough. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem on Windows 10, the only solution I found is to uninstall and reinstall the fonts with the fonts manager every time I start the machine or do a restart

Anybody else found a better solution for this?
You can imagine it's pretty annoying to reinstall fonts every time you turn on the computer 😕
