Hello, I'm not sure if I can get help with PS Actions here but I will ask anyway. Just started using the Dispersioon action after letting it sit for a long time. I can get to the "paint over the area" step and then it says to convert to Smart Object. Then it is stuck. I remember it did work fine when I last used it.
I am using the latest version of Photoshop.
"If I change to Smart Object manually, it still stays stuck where it is."
You must click Play button in the Actions panel to resume playing action if action stopped at some step like Stop step to explain something before resuming.

Can you capture screenshot with Layers and Actions panel visible and expanded when action stop playing or get stuck?

I do not see any problem that can occur because step Convert to Smart Object as it stands on your screenshot can be executed.
Where I can download that particular action, its from psddude, is that action free?

I am clicking the play button right after the painting step. Then it freezes.
I checked and the action is now $6 at PSDDude. It was a special free action when I got mine.
I did just send an email to their support address. Maybe they will help.

Freezes? It means action stop playing? Each action step is independent and can be executed alone but each action step has some requirements like layer or layer mask selected or layer with the specific name present in the actions panel. If you can not play action as it stands on your screenshot then convert to Smart Object step is changed or modified.
Can you post screenshot of step that freezes expanded in the actions panel and layers panel also expanded and visible?
