Distort and wrap Linked object - is it possible?

if i convert it to smart object then it'll not be linked anymore.

I really need to distrot an image while keep update it's link from time to time.

When you use File > Place Linked..., Photoshop creates a Linked Smart Object for you. Then you can apply Smart Filters to the linked file and change the source whenever you want. Here's more info on Linked Smart Objects:

i didnt mange to apply smart filters. it's grey out.

but first of all, What exactlye are smart filters? will they let me apply distort and wrap?

Yes, just like with embedded smart objects.

With the limitation that Vector Smart Objects do not allow Warp, the work-around being to convert them to another Smart Object.
