Distribute options are grayed out when transforming layers.

I'm a new comer to PS and learning how to use the program using online resources. Currently I am learning about transforming layers, specifically using the align, distribute, and distribute spacing options. As you can see from the attached image, everything aside from alignment options are grayed out. Is there any obvious reason why this would occur? Any assistance would be greatly aprpeciated.

I'm running the lates version of PS on a 2018 Mac Mini with OS Catalina.
