Does Photoshop suit for creating a procedural photorealistic textures with its filters?

Hi,

I was wondering is Photoshop suitable for creating a procedural photorealistic textures with its filters like that is possible with Substance Designer, FilterForge and similar software?

Is it good idea that Photoshop will alter its current use to a higher level? Are there any plugins for PS that can do that already?

I personally like the idea but have never found any plugins out there that will equip Photoshop with advanced level of photography. What do you think on this matter?

Thanks.

Adobe Substance is a separate product-line and purchase plan.

Substance 3D

If you're asking when Substance & Photoshop will merge, I think that's highly unlikely.  Use different tools for different tasks.

Hi @Victor_75

Adobe Substance Designer lets you export textures to Adobe Photoshop. Is that what you are asking?

Say what? Photoshop is the industry standard for photography at any level.

However, whilst Photoshop does have some functions to help with making tileable patterns, e.g. the recently added View>Pattern Preview, it is not a procedural texture/material maker. Given that Adobe also offer, Substance Designer and Substance Sampler, I can't see why it would want to compete with its own applications. Many of us use both Photoshop and Substance applications in our workflows.

For example Substance Designer looks very complicated for an artist like me that is not a math oriented. I am looking for a plugin or an extension which will do that in Photoshop with minimal effort. Maybe I am asking too much, but also maybe it would be a good idea to have such a tool that will do the procedural textures with combination of noises without knowing the math at all.

Substance Designer comes with presets for materials that can be customized.

Adobe Substance 3D Assets

It uses Nodes. Watch this two-minute video from Adobe Help to see how it works:
