Dynamic link between Photoshop and Lightroom as Premiere Pro and After Effects

Hello,

Recently I have found that Premiere Pro and After Effects work great together. You right click a clip in Premiere Pro, you select "Replace with After Effects Composition" and you create an After Effects file. That file replaces your original clip inside Premiere Pro timeline. By right clicking that file inside Premiere Pro it gives you the option of "Edit Original" which, if you select it, opens the After Effect file in After Effect. If you make some changes inside After Effect and save it, automatically those changes are visible inside Premiere Pro.

I am pretty sure that everyone, who works with Premiere Pro and After Effects, knows this but I can't figure out how to do the same with Lightroom and Photoshop. Let me explain.

I create CG images so for those images I have multiple RGB masks for selected items inside those images.

I prefer Lightroom than Photoshop for color correcting my images but unfortunately I can't use those RGB masks inside Lightroom to color correct specific items. This is where I need Photoshop and a dymanic link between Lightroom and Photoshop similar to the dynamic link between Premiere Pro and After Effects.

To sum up. I would like to right click an image in Lightroom, select to replace it (or make a copy of it, I don't care about it) with a Photoshop (.psd) image, make the changes to that .psd file, save it, close it and see these changes to Lightroom.

As far as I understand, when you right click an image in Lightroom, the "Edit in Photoshop" option gives you 3 options. None of them does what I described I would like to do above. In the best case scenario, "Edit a Copy" automatically creates a new image of the same type (lets say .tif) before it opens it in Photoshop. So If I make my changes in this file, save it and close it, Lightroom updates the image. If I right click this image again and choose "Edit in Photoshop > Edit Original" it nicely opens that image in Photoshop with all my masks and layers.

However, I am not used of having .tif files which are actually edited and saved with layers. I would like to have the option to create a .psd file which after that will be opened in Photoshop, just like what Premiere Pro and After Effects do. Is there a way to change that?

I know it's a very long post and sorry for that. I wanted to explain my issue as good as I could.

Thanks

Christos
