Edit : fill - symmetry option

I’ve been playing around with wallpaper groups and symmetrical designs lately and found out that photoshop allows you to create pattern fills based on the 17 wallpaper groups. I’ve tried over and over to use it but just can’t get the cell spacing to work. I’m definitely missing something but trial and error just doesn’t seem to be getting me any closer. I’ve searched online and in the books I have and can’t find any documentation that gives me a clue how to proceed. I’ve gotten the script from the exchange site and it works OK but i’d really like to figure out how to use the photoshop command. Can someone fill me in on what I’m missing or point me towards some sort of instructions or documentation?

Are you using Richard Kain's wallpaper script? Can you post some screen shots of what you're getting and what you want? I'm not sure how variable Richard's script is for positioning cell size.

I have Richard Kain’s scripts but I haven’t been able to experiment with them too much.

I’m more interested in finding out about the Photoshop tool that was pointed out by Chuck Uebele in his reply. I can make a small square cell to use it to define a pattern. When I use the Edit:fill - symmetry option to try and create a pattern the cells have various gaps and overlaps and just come out looking like a mess. I can tweak and tune the options and get it looking right but the tweaks I make don’t make a lot of sense. If I change the symmetry type from say p1 to pm or pg the cells get all messed up again and I’m back to trial and error tweaks again. I think if I could find some kind of documentation it may focus my efforts. Maybe this is just a problem with photoshop and I should explore Kain’s scripts more. Is there anyone out there that has had any luck making these types of patterns? Thanks so much to all of you for your replies.

Richard really did the most the the symmetry scripts. But here is a document that was put together by the engineer who created the Deco Scripts.

Are you referring to Edit > Fill > Pattern, Script checked?

I am also trying to figure out how to use this built in function of PS. I'm in PS CC 20.0.5. I select an area of an image. Edit > Fill >Pattern, Script > Symmetry Fill > OK brings up a new box (see picture above) with choices, but not the area, and nothing that makes sense. I have been unable to find any documentation on how to use this. What I am looking for is a way to make these varieties of symmetry shown in this box on parts of a selected image. Alsmost like a kaleidescope. Any suggestions welcomed.
