Whenever I resize or crop a JPEG image rather than it staying as a JPEG when I save it I am always offered an option like save as PSD , TIFF etc. This really slows me down . . how can I remedy this?

If you opened a JPEG file and the resize/crop was all you did, you can save it (as JPEG) without any prompt from Photoshop using Save command.

That's how it should work but when I open a JPEG file and enhance colour &/or brightness it saves as a JPEG, no problem but if I crop it always gives me the choice of saving options which means I have select JPEG from the list and then it saves as a 'copy' so I have to delete the word copy and select 'replace' . . it all takes time! Have you experienced this?

If Photoshop is defaulting to Save a Copy after you adjust your JPG file, that means that you have introduced some feature to the file that is not supported in JPG. (Layers is one possibility)

Try Flatten Image before trying to save.
