Eraser question

New Here ,
Mar 09, 2023 Mar 09, 2023

Probably a dumb question but why does my eraser switch to a paint brush when I select certain brushes? In the past if you selected the eraser tool you had access to the same brushes that the paint brush tool used, but they worked as erasers. I now see that you have access to the same brushes but certain brushes make the tool flip over to paint brush. What am I missing?

When one creates a Brush in the Brushes Panel one can »Include Tool Settings«.

That a Brush is indeed intended to be used with one specific Tool is indicated with a small icon.

One can override the setting (ctrl-alt, I think).

One can, if one wants, create kind of a set of brushes (that can even include specific colors), erasers etc. to use without needing to change the Tool via the Toolbox or Shortcut.

If one downloads and uses abr-files that contain brushes that »Include Tool Settings« that is the choice of the makers of those, not a failure on the Photoshop team’s side.
