Eraser tool - boundary circle disappears

I am having a problem where the boundary circle disappears from the eraser tool. All that displays is the center crosshairs. I have to close out of the program and my computer and when I reopen everything it comes back only to disappear randomly again. ver

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?
