error message re color profiles

I'm getting the following error message when trying to drop a new layer from a different file into the main file:

Paste Profile Mismatch

Are you sure you want to convert colors to a destination document with a color profile that does not match the current RGB working space?

Source:  ProPhoto RGB

Destination:  Adobe RGB (1998)

Working:  sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Is Source the layer I am trying to drop in?

Is Destination the main file I am trying to drop into?

What is "Working"?

Thank you.

It's not an error message, just information.

I turn those messages off. Yes, you should keep track of your color profiles, but there are much better ways to do that:

In the case of a simple copy/paste, it gets converted to the destination document anyway, so there's nothing useful in that message.

Your working space doesn't really matter. What matters is that you have policies set to "preserve embedded profiles", and then that embedded profile will always override the working space.

Thanks.  The file I was trying t drop in was a RAW file.  Since it's RAW it's profile will always be Adobe RGB, correct?  Is the color profile of a PSD document sRGB always, or usually?  Is that why that message occurred?  But I believe I have dropped RAW files into PSD documents before without getting this message.

A raw file is opened into Photoshop with the profile you set in the ACR workflow options. You choose which one.
