Question

Everything becomes fully transparent

Hello! I'm new to Photoshop and at first, everything was running smoothly. However recently while trying to import photos the photo becomes fully transparent. When first starting a new project the background is black (though I'm pretty sure I've set it to white) and once I change the background to a normal layer, it becomes fully transparent as well. I've tried keeping the background to see if that's the issue, but any imported photos still become transparent.

"at first, everything was running smoothly"

Hi

Did anything happen when everything stopped running smoothly? One thing you might try is to go to the Photoshop menu > Preferences > General and choose Restore Photoshop Preferences on Quit, then quit and relaunch.

Also, note:

  • the image you copied has a notice that it may be copyrighted
  • copy and paste is never as good as right-click > Save, then open in PS, presuming you have legal rights to do so.

One thing I note when you open a new document, your profile is set to "display". Select sRGB and try again.

Have you tried checking on "Legacy Compositing"? Reboot for safe measure.

Check your Layers panel and set the Opacity to 100% if it's not already. Please post screenshots of your Layers panel when you first start the project and when it becomes transparent. Also, open your History panel from the Window menu. By default it records 50 steps. Make it tall enough and wide enough and post a screen shot of that as well.

The first screenshot shows "Untitled-1". In the second, you have that plus a second file called "Untitled-2".

  • Why is the first file black? Did you choose that in File > New?
  • How are you opening the second file?
  • Where did that image come from — is it a photo you took?
  • We need to see the History panel for both files.
