I want to keep the girl and tree in center of picture the same aspect ratio, but I need to expand the area on each side and some of the top and bottom of the image.  I tried using the transform tool, but it expands everything.  What tool or technique would I use to achieve the look i'm going for?

Hi

You could add a new layer below the original and crop to enlarge the canvas, then make a selection and use the Content Aware Scale

Hi, a few ways

OP:1 unlock your background layer, go to image>canvas side and if you want to keep the same aspect ratio, check the option relative

OP:2 Unlock the background, select the crop tool, hold down the option and shift keys to keep the aspect ratio

OP:3

Then:

you can use the content aware fill: select the empty areas, go to edit>content aware fill

or you can use the content aware scale, with Ged Traynor instructions
