Export Artboards to Files script error in PS v21.0 and other recent CC releases

Export > Artboards to Files using default settings (and other settings) results in a Script Alert: 

Error: General Photoshop error occured. This functionality may not be

available in this version of Photoshop.

- The command "Make" is not currently available.

This has been going on for a while now and has screwed up my workflow for a number of my old artboard projects that I need to update occasionally. This functionality used to work just fine.

To fully test this bug, I created a new simple two-artboard file afresh using PS v20.0.7 and got the same script alert.

I've upgraded to the latest PS CC v21.0 and it's still returning the same error. Running PS on Win10 box.

Would really appreciate a fix Adobe!

It would be very helpful it f you supply the document and the script without them we have nothing to look at.  The message you posted is a very common message scripts generate when there is a problem with the document that is being processed.  

Supply pertinent information for quicker answers

• The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:

I believe I provided most of the information requested already. I can't see where to attach a document. The script is the inbuilt PS one accessed from File | Export | Export to Artboards. It's not something I've written.

To recreate the error. Set up a simple document with two artboards with a single layer in each. Choose File | Export | Export to Arboards and then choose Run with the default settings. Screenshots follow. As does System Info ouput.

I had the same issue, and the problem was a missing link to a smart object; once updated the link the scripts worked

I had the same issue, I had objects showing on an artboard that, in the layers menu, weren't under the correct artboard layer grouping. Once I moved them in the layers menu artboard, the export feature worked.
