Export As Error - Attempting to Output Non-Active Documents, Failing to Output Entirely

Export As dialogue attempts to output other open documents aside from the active one. Upon closing all other open documents, this attached error occurs. Relaunching the application resolves the issue for a while.

Photoshop Version: 25.7.0 20240415.r.504 130b225 x64
Operating System: Windows 11 64-bit build 22631.3593

Hey, @ethan.starkweather. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Before troubleshooting, update Photoshop 2024 to the latest version (v25.9) via the Creative Cloud desktop app & check if the issue exists.

Try these steps:

1 - Enable 'Use legacy 'Export As' menu by going to Photoshop > Edit > Preferences (CTRL + K) > Export and check if that helps.

If it does not, go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Sameer K

Hi Sameer,

Thanks for getting back to me. I absolutely already "Use legacy 'Export As'" ever since the Photoshop team inexplicably broke alpha transparency for the "Smaller File (8-bit)" PNG output in v23.2. Still a bit annoyed by that.

But I can no longer replicate this issue. I'd already updated to v25.9 in the intervening weeks since I posted this issue, so it seems to be resolved.

Thanks again.
