Export file without XMP?

I shot pix with camera and then iPhone.

I want to put those I edited in one folder together to compare pix and then PS them

Most of my camera pix have XMP files.  Can I move just the .CR3's out to the folder and do my adjustments or must I have the XMP's with them?

Basically must I have both to do my PS color corrections and then save so I can sent to client?

Can I do one without the other??

What is the concern, is it that you don’t want the client to see the XMP metadata?

Does the client need to see just one comparison picture showing the versions from both cameras, or do they need all the original files too?

 

Because if the client only needs to see one comparison picture, then this should be easy:

1. Don’t worry about the XMP files, bring the images into Photoshop and build your comparison. 

2. When finished, choose File  > Export > Export As, or File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy). 

3. Whichever one you choose, set Metadata to None. Then there will be no camera, edit, or annotation metadata in the exported copy. Send them that.

Adobe products don't directly edit proprietary raw files, instead, the processing instructions and other changes are either held in XMP sidecar files or stored in a catalogue/database in the case of Lightroom (Bridge can do both).

 

So you need to keep the XMP sidecars alongside the proprietary CR3 files.

 

The other option would be to create DNG versions of the CR3 files, as these can contain the processing instructions and other metadata changes inside the DNG without requiring a sidecar.
