Question

Export Save For Web (Legacy ) suddenly not working - Windows 10, Photoshop Version 25.11.0

I've been using Photoshop since the 1990's and the Save For Web function is critical to my work. For several years now this was made a "legacy" function, thus I use the Alt + Shift + Ctrl + S keys to "export" for web.

Last week this worked fine, today nothing happens when I either use those keys or select the File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy) function.

This is not good. I use this function ALL. THE. TIME.

Would really appreciate help on this!! THANKS.

26.1.0 Macbook Pro. Sequoia 15.1.1.

Same here. Suddenly its not available. The only other export as doesn't export animated GIF's. So I'm basically screwed or looking at a different tool.

Lame Adobe!

STATUS UPDATE - Adobe updated my Photoshop to Version 26.0.0 - and this issue has gotten worse!!

Now I not only have to open the file within Photoshop first (rather than from File Explorer), but I actually have to RESTART Photoshop each time before using Save For Web when I've been processing other files.

Save for Web is indispensable because I need to downsize the dimensions and resolution of original images for use on my website. Save as a jpg doesn't do this for me. This "new" development is very frustrating and a real time waster.

I'm going to try to reset preferences again, but I totally DREAD doing this since there are so many customizations that have to be reset and it totally messes up my workflow.

Sign me very frustrated ...

I have been using Save For Web for years.  This failure is driving me crazy. Almost as bad as when Adobe would not let me reinitiate my registration for my paid-for and totally reliable version CS3 because their server no longer existed!! I am no w paying a monthly subscription for a product that keeps changing things (and not for the better!).

Why are you still even USING this garbage software?  It stopped being useful YEARS AGO.  Now it is just a buggy, bloated, garbage program.  I hate Adobe, and I hate Photoshop, and I absolutely WISH someone would make REAL software again that didn't require a subscription.

Thought I'd help by pinpointing exactly when this error was introduced for me.
I downloaded a couple of plugins från Adobe.
In order for them to work, I had to open Photoshop with Rosetta.
Did this. Then switched back to normal way of starting the app
(since simulating Intel took like forever...)

This is what caused the legacy web export to stop working.
Been using the command since mid 90's - and I want to keep doing so,
sinceit is way faster, has more options (options relevant for me).

Did anyone have a fix?

Actually fixed this myself.
This is what I did. (version 25.12.0, MacOS Sonoma, MacBook Pro M3 Pro)
1. Quit Photoshop
2. Held down command + option + shift while restarting.
3. Deleted preferences file via the dialogue box.
4. Good to go!

@FloridaGal it's working for me with both the shortcut and going to file > export > save for web, with Photoshop version 25.11 on Windows 11

Have you tried manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

Thanks both for the input, very much appreciated. I restarted Photoshop and it worked fine but I've done that a couple of times now, in other words it's a bit flaky. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Seems like something going on with my OS. I'll try resetting preferences, thanks for those instruction links.

Follow-up: I've been doing some tests and will report back but basically I'm finding if I open Photoshop first, then open the file I want to save for web, the function works fine. It seems like if I double click a file to open it (rather than opening Photoshop first) that's when the function doesn't work. Please note that I haven't tested enough files to confirm this is the case, I'm just saying it seems to be that way. Will report more when I'm sure.

FWIW - having worked with this for a few days, I can confirm that when I double click to open a file from a folder in File Explorer instead of using File > Open within Photoshop, that is when then commands do not work. I have to open Photoshop first, then use its commands to open the file and then Save for Web.
