Question

Export to jpg vs. save as

We have a psd that is 1626 px x 2160 px @ 300dpi

When we save as a jpeg all the SPECS stay the same

When we export to a jpeg it converts the file size to 22.583 x 29.583 @ 72 DPI

My client thinks these are low res images because they say 72 DPI. Why does this conversion happen?

It isn't a conversion, exactly, it just doesn't set a resolution AT ALL in the result when you use Export: some apps will default to 72 dpi when they report it. This is because Export is intended only for web use (nice if it told you that). Don't use it for print graphics, the client is right to be worried, even though it could be scaled back to size in most cases. Use SAVE AS Jpeg instead.
