Photoshop won't let me save a photo without an option where I want to save it. I'm trying to send the photo back to lightroom. How do I save it automatically without being asked an option where to save it?

If you opened it in Photoshop directly from Lightroom, just close the file and save the changes without renaming and the file will automatically be returned to LR. If you Save As, and change the name, you break the link.

The new PSD is created in the same folder as the original file that was passed over from Lightroom.

Check Preferences > External Editing > Check the box that says Stack with Original. Then as MH has mentioned when you close the image and save the changes, the file will be saved directly beside the original file and will show up in Lightroom.
