Feathering/blurring edges of Layer Style's "Blend If"

Hey all is there a way to do the title?

I rember back in college I was taught something that allowed me to feather or blur the edges so its not so sharp, but I dont rember anymore...

The blend if sliders globally change opacity depending on luminosity or channel values.

 

If you need to only affect the edges (regardless of tonal range), use a bordered layer mask with a blur or a clipping group.

I have never like Blend If.  Sometimes you can get an OK result, but it usually sucks.

if you Alt+Drag the sliders, you can split them in two, to create a range.
