File changing from RGB to sRGB

I was hoping to see if one of you knows what I'm missing here.

When I'm working on a document in PS and sharpen it, when I convert it back to RGB it changes to sRGB.

The steps are below so you can see where this is happening. Also important to note, my profile in ACR is set for RGB upon import.

The color setting under edit are also setup to be Adobe RGB.

Let's say I want to sharpen an image and the profile is RGB.

Steps I use:

Duplicate layer

Change the mode to LAB on the top layer

Turn off A and B channels

Apply sharpening

Change layer type to overlay

Change mode back to RGB and Merge layers

Once I do this it always changes my document profile to sRGB and I cannot figure out why?

This could be something very simple I'm missing as I just did a reinstall of CC on my MacBook Pro (Mojave)

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Can you check your Photoshop colour settings. It sounds like your default RGB working profile is sRGB. You can change that default to Adobe RGB.

If you use Image > Mode it will convert to your working space, whatever it is. Use Convert to Profile instead.

Thank you for the answer. I‘m still confused as to why if I switch from Lab to RGB and back why it would go to sRGB instead of back to the original profile of RGB?

    Hi

Can you conform that when you say your colour setting shows "RGB" it actually says "Adobe RGB 1998" and the profile at the bottom of the document (prior to switching) also says "Adobe RGB 1998". If it just says RGB then something is wrong.

That is correct. Sorry, was just trying to be brief with the response. It is Adobe RGB 1998
