I have run into some issues regarding saving. When saving any file type (PSD, TIFF, etc.) the file isn't saving with a file extension. You can manually add the extenstion and then it will save but by default the extensions are not being added.
I teach and some of my students' exercise submissions didn't have a file extension (which on a non-Mac device won't open). This is when I noticed the issue.
On the teacher's Mac, I can save with the file extensions. I have checked the versions on both Student Macs and the Teacher Macs, they all are working in the up-to-date Photoshop (22.4.3) and operating on Mojave 10.14.6.
I have only noticed this issue with Photoshop and only on certain computers, which is puzzling.

What are the Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling settings?
Are extensions displayed at all on the computers that produce the problematic files? And are they all Macs?

The only File Handling settings involving the extensions is wether or not they save in Upper Case or Lower Case. The only append option is for the word 'Copy' on copies.
None of the computers that have the issue display the file extensions when saving and yes they all are Macs running the same OS version and Photoshop version.

Is it possible to share a screen capture from the computers where the file extension is not saving? If so, please include.

The computers that have the issue are at the computer lab I teach in. I can take screenshots on Tuesday, but I have attached a recreation that shows what it looks like when saving. No extension is shown where you put in the name. On the computers with the issue it would save without the extension (it saves with the extension on my personal home Mac which is running on a different OS).
I have also attached screenshop showing the 'Name & Extension' info for a file that was created on the computers having the issue.

I'm having the same issue. I think it's maybe an OS issue with Mojave. Of all the computers I teach on, we're only seeing it with the ones using Mojave. I wouldn't recommend updating to Big Sur though. One of the computers I teach on was updated to Big Sur and it's AWFUL, no file extension issues, but so many other bugs that it's probably better to just manually add extensions after you save the file on your mac.
