File seems to be corrupted - can I get it back?

I have been working on a personal art project for the past 3 months on my laptop, paired with my new Wacom Intuos Pro. No software or hardware issues with either. My trial for photoshop 2020 ran out a few days ago, so I tried to open my file in CC 2019

 and found... this. I went around looking at other similar problems and tried their individual solutions but nothing has worked. I had opened and worked on the file in CC 2019 previously as well, so I'm not quite sure what's going on. I just finished reinstalling Photoshop 2020 in a last ditch effort thinking that maybe opening it in the most updated version would restore it somehow, and yet... no help. Like I've said I've restarted my laptop, tried the graphics driver fix, and various others, so if anyone has any suggestions besides 'Damn that sucks, but you can't do anything. Gotta start fresh, sorry" that would be fantastic. The file itself previously had about 14 layers, all with nothing much on them as I was just getting started but the file size hasn't changed since a few weeks ago when it was fine. Thanks for your time, and a screenshot of the opened file in Ph 2020 is below.

There is something that does not add up about your 'trial'. As D.Fosse has said, the subscription covers both so you would not have a trial version of CC2020.  Also a trial would not run again on reinstall.  So please clarify what you are running in your screenshot - if you are not sure, go to Help - System info and press copy. Then paste the info here.

As far as your file, it is important to find whether the file is corrupt or just the display of it is corrupt. Are you able to open it on another system or post a link to allow someone to try it.

Finally, if you are working on a file for a long time, make regular saves with incremental filenames e.g filename001, filename002...etc. that way if the system or you mess up a file then you can easily revert to a recent version.

    That doesn't make any sense. If you have a subscription, it's valid for both. There's no such thing as "trial" for one and a valid subscription for the other.

     

    Generally, file corruption is always caused by failing hardware. Usually a failing drive or bad RAM, but another overlooked and fairly common cause is loose connectors/cables when working directly to an external drive.

     

    Video driver bugs can also cause the file to be incorrectly represented on screen, but in that case the file itself is unharmed.

     

    A third possibility is power loss when you're in the middle of a save (you'd notice that).

     

    Other than that, Photoshop can't do this.

      Have you tried with 3rd party tools? In essence Photoshop will never damage its files, something else did so it is not to blame Photoshop and from its side,  I think, Adobe is not providing any tool for such situations.
