Question

File size

I am hoping someone can help me, just recently when I take an image from lightroom to edit in photoshop it is suddenly a huge file.

it leaves Lightroom at say 46MB and when I check it in PS it becomes anything from 200MB to 600Mb, this is very annoying as Shootproof only accepts a maximum file size of 50MB, can anyone shed any light on this and let me know what I need to change to stop this happening?

It never used to do this so I am puzzled.

Many thanks

Discussion successfully moved from Adobe Creative Cloud to Photoshop

When you have a raw file in Lightroom, for each pixel in the file it takes 14bits. A 36Mp file compressed could make around 40-50Mb, depending on the ability to losslessly compress your picture. When you take that file into Photoshop, it will take at least 24 bits per pixel, my guess however is, that will be a 16 bits picture taking 48bits per pixel. You've multiplied the storage need by more than 3 times. If you add layers you add storage need. Photoshop will add a full fledged preview. Each of this takes up space, making your (rather compact!) 40Mb raw file a 200Mb+ monster, without a lot of effort.

Sorry, in 1 I meant to ask what is the width and height, each in pixels.

Let's look at some actual numbers from just one test file.

    1. What is the actual file size in pixels, shown by image size?

    2. Is it RGB, CMYK or greyscale?

    3. What image format are you saving as?

    4. What menu do you use to start the save?

    5. What is the actual file size you save, in MB?

    6. What exact version of Photoshop do you have?

Please answer all the questions, or let us know if you need help with getting any of this information.

Thank you for responding. I click command and E and it takes my image to PS to enable me to edit it. when I am finished I click command S and it saves it back where it was in LR, it still does this but the file size simply by taking it to PS without editing is huge.

If you mean the size appearing on the bottom of Photoshop ,it's normal it's the size on the disk and not the real size .
