Fill tool turning every colour grey

At the oment whenever I use the fill tool(normally through the polygonal selction tool) I'm finding that no matter what ever selection I make when I select it the colour will always be a shade of grey. I looked online and I have check through the image tab that I'm in RGB colour so now I'm stuck, any suggestions?
