Filling a star shape with text - ERROR

Hi guys, first time posting here.

I am a very novice user of photoshop and lately I've been creating song designs in a heart shape (the text fills the shape and then when printed you don't see the outline.

Someone has asked for a song in a star shape and I just cannot do it, the text simply will not align in any of the star shapes. 

I'm really not sure what I am doing wrong and I have tried all the fixes I can find online to no avail.

Can anyone help? 

*when I insert text inside the star, it just types it in a long line rather than wrapping it inside the shape.

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Paths, Options Bar, …) visible? 

Did you wait for the Type Tool cursor to change to the one with the circle outline when you hovered inside the star-Path?

Thanks for the super quick reply, i've taken some screen shots below.  I have just tried it again and the type tool NEVER chages to the circle when I use the star shape...is there a reason or am I doing something wrong?

Pretty much all the other shapes change the tool to the circle, just not the stars 😞 
That must be the problem...is there a star I can add to photoshop that will allow me to add text?

On a new layer, trace Star Shape with the pen tool. See screenshot.

Can you post a jpg with the star path to check the path?

Many of the included shapes have a bug in that they have not been closed.

The included 5 point star, for example, isn't closed at the top as shown below.

To find the open part of a shape/path select the Pen Tool and hover over the points until you see the Merge Symbol as shown below.

Then double click on the point(s) to Close the path and hopefully after that you'll be able to type inside the shape/path.
