Question

Find a previous version of a saved Photoshop file

I modified a file, then when saving it by mistake i saved it with the same name of the original instead of changing the name, so i lost the original file. Is there a way to reobtain the original file ?

Hi

If you saved over the original Photoshop file, closed it, didn’t make a backup, don’t have Mac Time Machine or Windows Previous version, and didn’t save to the CC cloud, it’s most likely gone. But now you have choices for the future, and you may want to use more than one of them.

Is your saved file a file saved locally e.g. a PSD or is it in the new cloud document format. If the latter, versions are accessible by going online to cloud documents

Hi

In addition to what Ged said, if you did File > Save in Photoshop and if the file is still open, you can use the History panel to step back to before the Save.

Hi

It depends on where you saved the file and what operating system you have, for MacOS there's Time Machine if you have it enabled and for Windows you have Previous version

You should always keep a backup of your important files as a safe gaurd
