Flame filter does not flame makes triangles

Just updated PS today - update Nvidia driver today! 

System info 

Processor          Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900F   2.00 GHz

Installed RAM   32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)

System type       64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition Windows 11 Home

Version 24H2

Installed on       ‎11/‎9/‎2024

I have a similar system spec but with the 13900K, and RTX4080

 

It looks like you used Multiple flames one direction, but probably did not have Randomize length checked.

Your results are definitely messed up for sure.

I wonder if the Rest does anything other than return to defualt settings. Hit if you have not done so already.

 

This sort of problem is usually GPU related.  What driver are you using?  The Studio driver works better than the Game Ready with Photoshop.

 

It's not clear if you followed Ged's advice regards the Preferences.   You said that you returned them to default, but did you do a Manual Reset as per Ged's link?

No, I didn’t reset that way  - my prefs are basic and I don’t use third-party plugins.

Studio driver.

Also recently updated BIOS.

@Bwp3 close Photoshop and then go to this location C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2025

Rename this folder, Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings to Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settingsold

A new settings folder will be created when you relaunch Photoshop, test the flame filter again


Better? I did change the filter settings.

@Bwp3 just tested on my system with Photoshop version 26.8, and it's working as expected

Try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

Hi Ged – one of the first things I did was turn my prefs back to default – no change.

It did work when I first used it.

I might have a corrupt file – maybe I need to reinstall PS.
