Flickering Windows in Photoshop CC

Just installed Photoshop cc latest version after previously using PS CS5.4 with no issues. I am experiencing problems with windows and screen flickering making the application unusable. Have tried all the performance tweaks and fixes recommended and it makes little difference. Contacted the help desk and was told to try an earlier version of PS or update to windows 10. I am currently on windows 7 64bit and don't really want to upgrade to windows 10 if it's not absolutely necessary. Haven't tried the earlier version of CC yet but I'm not convinced that this is the problem. I'm not a computer geek as such, but am not afraid to try whatever is necessary to fix this as I'm a regular user of PS and rely on it for my photography post processing (or did!! )

My gut feeling is that this is a graphics card issue. I've checked my installed graphics card and it is AMD Radeon 3000 which is no longer on the recommended list of cards for PS CC. Can anyone with some practical knowledge advise me which direction to go in next. If I have to buy a new graphics card what would you recommend.

My set up is

Windows 7 professional 64bit

16GB Ram

AMD ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics

AMD 4100 quad core processor

      Just been overwhelmed by the amount of interest and support from this forum!!(not).

      In truth, the Adobe help guy was quite good when I contacted him.

      Just in case anyone out there is interested or has the same problem. I decided to bite the bullet and go for a new machine running Windows 10 with similar memory but a much better GPU. My old machine didn't owe me anything anyway.

      Thanks to Mohit and Dave for taking the time to offer some advice.

      I just updated my macbook as well as Photoshop and now I'm experiencing the same issue you had years ago. So there's a fix for this?

        Same. I have never had a problem with Photoshop since the mid-90s until I updated my Macbook Pro to Big Sur. Now I can have my whole screen flash white when I use any tools, or have just the border flash white, depending on if I check or uncheck "use graphics processor" option in Preferences-Performance or not. Very frustrating. Hopiong there's an answer to this.

          Same here with Photoshop 22.0.1 on a 27" 5k iMac (2014) with Big Sur. Never had any problem like this before. Selected areas flash and flciker when using an adjustment, window just starts flickering randomly sometimes, especialy when not active (other app or window in foreground).

          Since i updated both OS and Ps around the same time, it's difficult to say when it started.

          Hi richards,

          We're really sorry to hear about the flickering issue in Photoshop. Have you tried turning off the GPU from the Photoshop preferences and check if that helps.

          Open Photoshop > Edit menu > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck GPU > Restart Photoshop.

          Yes, you can also upgrade the supported GPU as per the current configuration of your machine and Photoshop CC 20.0.

            Hi Mohit,

            Yes that's all been tried but makes no difference. I'm now investigating if I can fit a  graphics card upgrade to solve this problem.

            What's your opinion on updating to windows 10 ? Do you think this would make any difference given that my GPU is not on the recommended list ?
